Sad But True: I'm An Internet Whore by Dawn Prochilo

Many have told me those exact words. Someone recently sent me some off-the-wall sarcastic thoughts and phrases to describe my blogging and Internet whoring.

• If blogs were like wine...consider Dawne a wino.
• Hi, I'm Dawne, I'm a blog-aholic.
• Dawne Prochilo: For when one blog just isn't enough.

I've even been nominated as President of the Overbloggers Anonymous Club apparently.

There was even post on my personal facebook wall from when I was attending the Lori Foster 7th Annual RAGT this past June. I posted that I had met a fellow attendee who blogged almost as much as I did...the first comment to that post said “Blog Hoe”. That came directly from my husband who was sitting five feet away from me. If I wasn't so involved in searching blogs at that moment I would've smacked I had a lead on a really cool promo opportunity for one of my fellow Naughty Romance Writers private group members. Blog first, smack later.

I oversee eight blogs daily, post to many of them on a weekly basis, tweet them out daily and organize virtual blog tours for ebook authors. All in a day's work, I guess.

Each morning I wake up around 4am EST and spend about two hours scouring the hundreds of blogs I follow looking for NRW members, reviews, calls for submissions and interesting tidbits to share. Then after working an 8-hour day at the day job...I spend another few hours each evening doing the same thing. Blogs post all throughout the day and I don't want to miss a good feature.

And let's not forget all the blogs I write for other authors as promos for myself...guest blogs, commenting on various blogs and tweeting the blogs for more exposure. It's an endless circle of “whoring”.

But I love it !

I'm just not happy unless I'm connected to the virtual world of publishing. Someone recently told me I had (or they imagined) my laptop conjoined to my hip. Really? Am I THAT bad? Sheesh...maybe I am. But the thrill of helping other authors promote just excites me...yes, excites me.

The tweeting...the comments... all of it- it's such an adrenalin rush for me.

Follow Dawne on her facebook fan page, her blog and her newest blog promoting and bringing together upcoming authors and publishers.

Dawne has five erotic books published, one sex and relationship advice book, oversees and contributes to eight blogs weekly and coordinates five facebook pages and is the lead administrator of a private facebook erotic author's group.

Cassandre Dayne - What is it About Hot Men and the Islands?

I don’t know how you feel but I love people watching when I’m at the beach. Relaxing on a fluffy towel in front of the cerulean blue ocean while warm breezes skate across the heat of my skin is dazzling but the men in skimpy bikinis and surfer shorts is even better. You know the kind I mean ladies – the ones that are all carved and sun-kissed, their hair fanning behind their back. Whew…just thinking about it gets be all hot and bothered. I enjoy hiding behind my dark shades and simply watching their fluid bodies in action.

Now imagine your pool boy, golden hued and hunky serving you the island concoctions that help cool down the raging fire. Doesn’t that make you want to pick up the phone and contact your travel agent? All kidding aside, it’s summer and I always want to take a trip to some tropical location. The eye candy is simply a wonderful benefit. What if you were trying to nurse a broken heart? Instead of falling into a gallon of chunky monkey ice cream, grab a girlfriend and hop a flight. Then allow the fun to begin. Who says you have to be a good girl all the time?

In penning Taming Paradise, I decided to combine everything I love – hunky men from New Zealand, a far away island, a hedonistic type of club catering to every erotic fantasy and two women bent on soothing hearts and finding mischief. While it’s certainly a fun piece, it’s also about healing and finding love. Come take a taste as our heroine’s best gal pal decides to issue a naughty challenge. Coming out in July from Rebel Ink – this will be my 8th release and one I’m very proud of. If you’re around on July 28th – doing a release party at The Romance Studio where I’ll give away copies so you can enjoy the real thing and…my HOT island boys.

Would running away to a lush island soothe your broken heart?

Shannon Myers had it with men. Finding her fiancé, Randolph, in bed with a naughty blond vixen half her age did little for her self-esteem and despair settled in. Incensed, her best friend, Amy, whisked her way to a Caribbean island and a well known Hedonistic spot so that she could recover while convincing her to have a wicked fling of her own. Developing a naughty game titled Taming Paradise, the first one that bedded not one but two stunning hunks would win. Her spirit crushed, Shannon refused until she took one look at New Zealanders, Brandon and his rough-hewn friend Kyle and knew that two young studs just might be her ticket to a slice of happiness. Instantly the nights turned saucy as Brandon introduced her to a very kinky society, where all things scandalous were on the menu.
Shannon found herself falling hard, until she realized that he was none other than Randolph’s son and she was embroiled in a ruse that included releasing her inner most secret and very erotic cravings they had shared together years before. Racing back to the states, she was determined to put the experience behind her. However Brandon wasn’t playing a game. He had been in love with her for years and the moment he found out about his father’s behavior, he was determined to win her heart. It took nefarious planning, a surprise visit from Randolph and a series of truths to finally convince her to take a chance with a young man that stilled her heart and filled her every desire.

Shannon frowned and glanced across the shimmering pool, reflecting the iridescent gold of the late morning sun. Several of the young male guests preened and obviously hungered for company. Somehow the vision curled Shannon’s stomach, yet she had to admit, the yummies were hot and she was in need. These boys are half your age. Shivering, Shannon envisioned their naked bodies. As she licked her lips, her pussy tingled from the lascivious thoughts. Chastising herself, she growled remembering she came to the gorgeous island for respite and recovery, not fresh prey.
“They are half our age to be exact and who the hell cares?” Amy said as if reading Shannon’s thoughts. “My God Shannon, we came down here for sun, drinks, relaxation and some kinky sex and not necessarily in that order. Come on girl.”
“Correction, you ran away with me to the Caymans as my best friend to help me wallow in my misery.“
“Oh Christ woman. You need to get laid! You need wild steamy sex with not just one but two hunky males and I think I know how to make that happen.”
“Please say that a little louder so everyone at the pool can hear you!” Granted, Shannon hadn’t had sex since she found out Randolph had cheated on her with a water nymph or so she liked to call the twenty something spicy bottled blonde with fake boobs. She remembered seeing the vixen riding her man like a stallion in heat, naked except for a dangling gold necklace. The woman, hell the girl was half her age and the damning event refused to leave her mind. That had been almost six months ago.
Amy glanced over at her as she swirled her drink. “All right, I’ve had enough of this pouting shit. We’re in a place that could only be described as a slice of heaven and you’ve done nothing but think about that freaking asshole you dated for far too long. I’m taking matters into my own hands, and girlfriend, you will not say no to me or I’ll find a way to make you suffer.”
Shannon grimaced and shook her head. Amy might be right but Shannon still stung from being pushed aside for a younger version. She glanced at her finger, rubbed a thin line where the engagement ring used to be and watched Amy saunter toward the bar. If anyone could get her out of her ridiculous doldrums, Amy, the buxom redhead who had been her best friend for years just might be able to. There was no doubt Shannon wanted to live again, but the thought of having sex with a stranger was sinful. Salacious. But the shameless thought did indeed sizzle her cunt.
“Here we go. You’re going to love this.” Amy handed her a pineapple filed with vibrantly colored straws.
“What is this?” Shannon asked as she raised her eyebrow.
“This is a naughty girl game called Taming Paradise and it’s one I won’t take no for an answer.”
“Taming Paradise? That sounds like something I wouldn’t do and you know it.”
Amy grinned and suckled her finger. “Well, how about this, you play lest I publish your diary over the internet.”
“You wouldn’t!”
Amy cocked her hip, tipped her glasses and gave Shannon a saucy grin. “Try me.”
Shannon growled and climbed out of the lounge chair. “What do you want me to do?”
“Short straws. The one that picks the shortest straw has to select not one but two of these fine hunky stud muffins. The fun part is you have to seduce both of the breathtaking hunks at the same time or face spending the remainder of the trip inside the hotel room. Of course you can do the nasty in the pool this afternoon for an appetizer and we’ll allow that to count as points.”
“What? Are you insane?” Shannon crossed her arms under her breasts and stared at her friend.
“You heard me, girl. Two men, at least one wild night of erotic sex and um…oh yes, the selection has to be made in the next fifteen minutes.”
“Are you out of your fucking mind? Ever hear of diseases and all of the rest that goes with something this crazy?” Thoughts of going home with something contagious ran through Shannon’s mind.
“’Scuse me, everyone goes through the physical screenings in order to be able to play. These delicious, horny men are completely safe.”
“Tests can be wrong.”

Six Sentence Sunday - Vampiric Assignations

Maverick moved, shortening the distance between him and Amber. Her eyes went wide and her pulse fluttered at her neck. The desire to take her raced through him. Every muscle screamed to fuck her now, before he finished his synth. He hadn’t ever done that. Synth hadn’t been invented when he’d last had sex on a regular basis.

Lee Ann Sontheimer Murphy's Sexy Books

Today I get the honor of hosting award winning author Lee Ann Sontheimer Murphy on my blog. Her reading tastes are similar to mine and I'm sure you'll love her books.

It’s funny – and to steal a line from an old episode of Gilligan’s Island I mean funny strange, not funny ha-ha- the difference in how others look at you when you’re a scribbling writer and when you can point them to your actual works, available for sale. When you’re writing and maybe publishing the little story here, the article there, even writing a local column, people smile and think it’s somehow “cute”. I mean after all, you’re “trying to be a writer”, right? So that’s all warm and fuzzy somehow. They, in their well-meaning way, may offer to “let you” be the secretary for some social club because you write. Or offer you a chance to do a newsletter for a group gratis because you’re a writer. They might compliment your columns, even clip them out and hang them on the fridge but it’s still little and local. It’s still something like winning a blue ribbon for your quilt or jar of apple jelly at the county fair. It’s nice but not that far outside the ordinary.

When you have your hair done at a local salon and they ask where you work, when you tell them you’re a writer, they grin down at you, captive in that chair and nod but they don’t really think so. You may go to school for parent-teacher conference or to serve as a room mother and the question comes up – so what do you do? I’m a writer, you smile and say and they nod. Of course they’ve always wanted to write and if they just had time, they would. And of course, if they did, their work would probably turn up on the best seller list, dontcha know.

Then one day you sign a contract for a novel. You tell a few people and they smile. After all, I live in Missouri, nicknamed the “Show-Me” state where people are fond of saying “I’ll believe it when I see it.” They want to see actual evidence. So you keep writing with a publication date set a year in the future and behold – you sell another one. It debuts six months before the first and by the time that first one comes out, you have an Amazon author page with five or six titles.

Now the same folks who thought writing was a cute little hobby say things that I could let go to my head like “I’m going to tell my grandkids that I know Lee Ann Sontheimer Murphy” or in the event of a relative, a cousin who made me feel ancient with this one, “I told our granddaughter than Grandpa’s cousin wrote the book she’s reading!” or “I read one of your books!”.

Suddenly, you’re legit, you ARE a writer, an author after all. Now they want you to speak to the kiddies about writing on career day, you gain that seat on the local library board you long coveted, and you feel like you’re walking into Cheers, to that familiar if fictional bar in Boston because now in my small town “everybody knows my name”.

But through it all, I’m the same person with the same experiences, background, skills, talents.

And to me, that’s the funny part – the ha-ha- funny part because the public is getting to know who I was, all the time.

Lee Ann has a great back list and I'm sure you can find something that you'll love. You can purchase one of Lee Ann's books by clicking the links below.

What's up with Subaru and Saudi Women

Can you imagine not having the right to drive? Okay, so if you've had a few DWI's and your license is gone that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the petition that calls for the car company to pull out of Saudi until the Saudi government changes their rules about women drivers.

These women in Saudi Arabia don't want to over throw the government or squash men, they just want to be able to run their errands without having to disrupt everyone's home schedule. Allowing women to drive in Saudi Arabia would make the country more efficient. How many hours are wasted waiting on someone else to drive them?

The rule was put in place by men who are afraid of their women. They are afraid of what their women can accomplish and how smart their women are. Saudi women are smart, funny, courageous and should be drivers.

The petition, which has more than 30,000 signatures, talks about how the company “loves selling cars to women, and has built up a progressive brand” for itself. Subaru sponsors women’s surf festivals, the U.S. Women’s Triatholon Series and the Outstanding Woman in Science Award for the Geological Society of America and yet they make millions in a country where women aren't allowed to drive. That's double talk to me.

The letter concludes with..."We write to you with a simple request: that Subaru publicly pledge to pull out of Saudi Arabia until such time as women are allowed to drive.

It is our hope that this will put huge pressure on the Saudi royal family and shine a bright light on the "gender apartheid" in our country. It's a chance for your company to live up to its brand, and make a huge difference for nearly 13 million of us Saudi women.

God bless you.

Saudi Women for Driving"

Sign the Petition not for yourself, but for end of all forms of apartheid

Women's Rights and Erotic Literature

What do Women's Rights and Erotic Literature have in common? At first glance you might think that erotic literature is degrading. I mean all those books with half naked women and men on the covers, being forced to do unimaginable acts with men. I've heard it called porn for women, trashy books, junk and other names, but when women start reading erotic literature they come alive with a sense of power in their lives that improves the quality of their lives.

Erotic Literature enhances women's rights. Women who read erotic literature learn that they can ask for more. Instead of being treated no better than a blowup sex doll in bed with their husband or significant other, women who read erotic literature learn to guide their partner into sharing the glory. Far too long men have been been selfish in bed. If you're a man reading this right now and you can't remember the last time your SO actually had orgasm then shame on you. Of course it may not be your fault because you wife or SO may be faking the orgasm because all of your pride is caught up in your prick. Erotic Literature, like Runaway Princess, teaches women that having an orgasm is part of lovemaking.

Lovemaking is a give and take exercise. Men should be giving enough that they don't expect to have an orgasm every time they bring their SO to climax. I know many men will be taken aback by that statement, thinking "Well what the hell is the point of sex if I don't get to come?" The point of sex is to build your relationship. When women have equal footing in the bedroom, when men treat women with respect in the sexual playing field and when women expect to get a physical boost from sex then women can go about their day with more confidence.

It is wrong to expect women to act as sperm receptacles, giving pleasure to a man when that man doesn't return the favor. You can tell a man who has had sex from the way he walks. He's got a boost in his step and confidence pours fourth from him. The quickest way to ruin your marriage or relationship is to never take the time to make sure your wife has an orgasm. The fastest way to improve your relationship is to make sure your SO has that orgasm.

If you can't do it on your own there is no shame in using tools made to give women orgasms. Buy a vibrator or other device. Purchase one of my books and read them together. Improving your sex life will improve your life.

Reading erotic literature will show you that you shouldn't be taken advantage of and give you the confidence to ask for a raise or seek out a better job. For far too long it has been the woman's job to make sure the man felt confident in his life and in the workplace, now men should realize that they have that responsibility too. They are responsible for giving their women that confidence boost that comes from great sex.

Writing Super Hot Sex

Everyone has a take on writing super hot sex. Some people object to certain words. Others want those words in their face. But you don't have to use the word cock or cunt to have hot sex.

What makes sex hot? The emotions associated with the sex. Sure, some people can go out and have sex with a stranger and they may think it's hot at the time, but once they make a connection with a true lover they are amazed at how wonderful the sex can be.

Anticipation and connection make written love scenes hotter. Think about two characters who want that connection and have to fight to make it happen. That's hot. When the author keeps the couple apart because of a realistic impediment it is just so hot when those two characters come together.

Making your characters wait to do the deed isn't always easy. Some characters want to go at it the second you write the first words of your book. The have lust and desire on the brain and all they can think about is humping the closest available body. Fast and furious sex can be hot, but the slow burn to work towards sex makes it hotter.

In Runaway Princess I don't let my characters actually have penetration sex until the end of the book but there is tons of hot sexual activity through out the book.

Go back and examine the last sex scene you wrote and see if it is hot enough. Examine the words you use and the emotion you inflict on the reader. Here's a little scene from Runaway Princess.

His hands rubbed her calves, tracing an erotic path up her leg to the back of her knee. Their gaze locked. She couldn’t look away. His eyes drew her in. There was something deeper inside of him than she’d originally believed. An intelligence that she thought would surely be lacking in a man who bought sex slaves.

If she wanted freedom her only way to send that message was through her eyes. With everything she had, Regina pleaded, begging him to let her go. If she could just get across the message that she wanted the gag out of her mouth, then maybe she could convince him that she would be more profitably used for ransom than for his evil desires.

“You are beautiful.” He lowered his head, resting it against her thigh. The cloth covering his face scratched her skin. He breathed in deeply. “You honeydew.”

Her head dropped back onto the bed and her face heated. Everything he said was improper. She didn’t know how to deal with his compliments or his touch. When she hatched this plan she had thought it would be easier, but he wasn’t playing fair. This wasn’t how her dream lover acted. How could he be so brazen as to sniff her like a common animal? He did it again, running his nose down her calf to her
foot then back up again.

She held her breath as his nose skimmed along her flesh, up her thigh from her left knee to her center. He let out a chuckle that hit her hard. Her insides churned while her skin flamed hot. She wanted to pull her legs together and curl into a ball. Her body jerked when his nose skimmed her belly, leaving goose flesh in his wake.

His fingers hovered over the triangle of hair surrounding her pussy. She jumped. The path his fingers traced drew closer to her center. Her breath came in gasps.

Six Sentence Sunday - Murder Stalks

A hollow thud echoed behind Marissa Santos. She picked up her pace, not wanting to be caught alone in the dark stairwell. Had there been anyone in the lot when she pulled in?

Her pulse quickened when she hit the top step. She ran to her door, pulling the keys from her purse. Nervous energy caused her hand to jerk.

Jodi Olson's Hot Stories

Today I have the honor of hosting Jodi Olson on my blog.

Here's what Jodi has to say about herself.
I started reading romances around the age of 14, maybe even younger. Would read any type of genre in romance. Then I really got hooked on western romance, those cowboys then became very addictive so that was all I read for many years.

Then about ten years ago I started reading erotic romances. I devoured them. Then 4 years ago I started writing my own western erotic romances.

I am the author now of 17 ebooks, and 2 paperbacks, with 4 more coming out this year. I write about the cowboys I love and other erotic romances including menage stories.

When I’m not writing, I spend my time reading and chatting on my yahoo author group and my FB group’s author pages and my group Divine Divas.

Blurb For the Love of Bobbie:
Bobbie knew she wanted to be with Clint forever, but sometimes things don’t work out. When he left, Devlin was there when she needed someone. Yet there was something about Devlin; she knew he cared for her, but he had a secret. When Clint comes back into Bobbie’s life things get complicated, for ALL concerned. What will Clint and Devlin do…For the Love of Bobbie.

Excerpt 1:
Clint walked down to the part of the river where Bobbie stood fishing and stared into her big beautiful brown eyes. “Bobbie, there wasn’t a day I didn’t think about you. I just wanted you to know that.”

“I don’t believe anything you have to say right now. You left not only me but…”
Clint waited for Bobbie to finish but she didn’t say anything else. “Guess I’ll have to show you instead of telling you then.” He lowered his mouth to hers and cupped his hand behind her head. “This should bring back memories of how it was between us and how it can be again—if you let it.”

Bobbie stood still, a soft moan escaping from the back of her throat. Clint softened the kiss as his fingers caressed gently down from her cheek to her jaw. Bobbie dropped her fly rod to the ground. Clenching her fist she let another moan escape her lips before placing her hands flat against his chest.

The memory of her kisses was the only thing that kept him going during those long cold lonely nights. His tongue traced along her lips, and she opened for him; her hands, still on his chest, trembled.

Clint felt himself growing hard, he wanted to make love to her right where they stood, but he lifted his mouth off hers. “Soon, Bobbie, I’m going show you we belong together, and you’ll be naked when I do.” He forced his eyes to focus on her lips instead of those beautiful breasts peeking out of that tight tank top.

“You shouldn’t have kissed me like that; I’m…seeing someone else now. I was over you a long time ago.”

“Those lips—that kiss—say otherwise.”

“I moved on, I’m with Devlin now.”

Clint saw Bobbie’s eyes become misty even though she tried to hide it from him. “I’m sorry, Bobbie, for hurting you. That’s the last thing I wanted to do. I know it doesn’t mean much, but we were just kids back then, now we’re both adults. I’m not that boy anymore, look me in the eyes and tell me you didn’t feel anything with that kiss.” He waited for Bobbie to say something but it never happened. Instead, he watched her walk away.

Excerpt 2:
An hour went by before Devlin felt Clint’s breath close to his ear. “Follow me, cowboy.”

Devlin followed Clint until they were far from the camp. “Take off my jeans, slave,” Clint commanded.

Devlin stripped off Clint’s jeans along with the boxers, and noticed Clint’s cock already hard against his belly. He leaned over and pressed a kiss to Clint’s lips. “What next, master?” Devlin brushed his lips against Clint’s lips again. “Do you want me to fuck you right now? Do you want to feel your slave’s cock inside you? ”

Clint could barely breath, he wanted Devlin to take him hard and fast and he wanted it now. When Clint’s breathing began to get heavier Devlin pushed him against the nearest tree. “Take me now, Devlin, before I change my mind.” Clint trembled as Devlin’s fingers stroked over his opening, then down and around his scrotum. Devlin moved one hand to capture Clint’s shaft in a hard clasp. The pulling action sent Clint’s arousal even higher. “Fuck me—now!”

Devlin reached in his pocket and removed a small package of lubricant, “You’ll need this, especially if it’s your first time,” he chuckled as he rubbed the slick liquid over his hardening shaft. Devlin’s cock pressed against the tight opening, he entered just a little and withdrew, then entered a little more each time, the burning increased as Clint’s anal opening stretched.

Excerpt 3:

Mesmerized by the erotic sight of Devlin working his cock deeper into Bobbie’s pussy, Clint groaned. The sound drew Devlin’s attention and he looked at Clint and grinned.

“Clint is watching us, Bobbie. I think he wants to join us.”

Bobbie’s eyes opened. “Clint!” Her voice was a shriek. She tried to move to get up, but Devlin’s hand pushed her back down. “Stay here, this is what you wanted, isn’t it?” His voice was smooth, but insistent. “Look at Clint, darlin’. His dick is about to burst through his jeans, wanting to get inside you.” He looked at Clint, “Tell her.”

Clint’s mouth was so dry he couldn’t speak so he nodded instead. Bobbie soon relaxed enough that Devlin sank the rest of his cock into her all the way. He withdrew in a slow motion before plunging back into her, forcing a cry of pleasure from Bobbie.

Bobbie watched Clint, and he watched Devlin fuck the woman they both wanted. He was fascinated by the gloss of sweat all over Devlin’s tanned skin, and the sucking and slapping sounds of the frantic erotic joining.

Devlin stopped moving. Placing one arm under Bobbie’s hips, he used the other to urge her up until she was pressed against his chest, his cock still firmly lodged in her pussy.

“Clint, get in here,” Devlin ordered.

Clint moved closer, stopping only a few inches from the bed.

Devlin lifted one hand to play with Bobbie’s breast. “Get those clothes off.” Clint didn’t waste any time doing just that.

Should you do it yourself?

Self publishing today isn't the same as it was even three years ago. If you choose the self-published option there is no reason for you to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to put your work out there.

Amazon has a wonderful option called Kindle Direct Publishing, also knows as CreateSpace. Publishing with Amazon is free. There is also Smashwords and Barnes and Noble's Pubit site. You don't need to spend a ton of money to get your book out there. But should you self publish your book?

There are many self published works out there that are terrible, there are also some great books. What makes a book terrible? Either the content or the condition of the language. Content problems are more difficult to fix. The condition of your language or grammar is much easier, but still a huge tasks. If you are one of those people who scored all F's in school in English Literature and Grammar then putting your work out there without a professional editor is a mistake.

Not all professional editors are created equal. Some are good, others suck. How do you know who to go to? Word of mouth. Talk to writers and find out who has helped them. Learn from others and use their experience to help you along. Get quotes from multiple editors and go with someone you trust.

If you book needs to be edited for content, that is much more difficult. At some point you need to listen to what others are telling you about your book. Join a critique group and really listen to their critique. Not all critique's are solid though. I've had the rogue critiques that were totally off base. Know your audience and study other books in print.

Things to pay attention to. The time line of your story. I've read self published works that terribly mess up the time line. By the third chapter I'm so confused because the author hasn't kept the time line straight. If your book starts on a Thursday don't make the next scene the Wednesday before unless you do a flashback, which isn't recommended. A good way to lose readers is to confuse them.

If you feel that you can work out the kinks of your novel, then do so and self publish. If you are new to writing, do everyone a favor and find someone else to edit your book for content and grammar.

Publishing by yourself does mean that you will be doing all of the advertising. You won't be able to tag along with other books from the publisher, because there are no other books. Once you build a solid foundation with ten to twenty books then you will have a built in readership, but between now and then you will have a load of promotion that you will have to do. Authors at large publishing houses also have to advertise, but they do have a bit more backing to build them up and help launch the book.

So does that mean you need to hire a publicist? Not necessarily. Social media and word of mouth helps to sell your books. There is also a great deal of luck involved too. Either way you will be required to do hard work. Going with a large publisher will get you more money up front, but it could also stifle your creativity and your productivity.

How to know when you're getting screwed

Publishing can be a tough road. How do you know if you're getting a good deal or a raw one. When is the publishing company eating you alive and when are they looking out for your best interest?

There are so many choices out there. Do you go with one of the big New York companies, or something small? The big NY publishers are most interested in their interest. Not that they are trying to screw you over, but they aren't going to hold your hand through the minefield of edits, emotions and disappointments that come with bringing your baby to publishing.

Small print publishers usually have more time to help you through the little stuff. But small print publishers don't have the same entree into the bookstores as large publishers.

Some publishers who act like small print publishers are really vanity publishers. What is a vanity publisher? It's a publisher who makes you pay money, often in the thousands. If your publisher is making you pay a huge sum, run, not walk away. You are getting screwed.

Many new authors are afraid of getting taken advantages by other writers. They think an author is going to take their ideas and steal them away. Yes, that happens every once in a while. But you can't live in fear and never share anything. You have to build relationships, learning from those who have gone before.

Cassandre Dayne has six books out with Rebel Ink Press. Rebel Ink Press started a year ago. Why go with a new publisher. Cassandre took a risk but it payed off for her. Here's what she had to say.
Not only has Rebel Ink Press and the entire team given me an opportunity to bring my stories to readers, but they've been supporting through the entire process. From the creation of covers where so much time is paid attention to detail to the editors that do everything they can to understand my voice and then to the final product, they're been caring and much more like a family than a business. They're professional, detail oriented and when a publisher will email you late at night squealing with you at your latest release, then I have to say I'm hooked on being a Rebeler. They constantly provide ideas for marketing and are willing to listen to every idea I throw their way. I hope to be with them for years to come.

How did Cassandre not get screwed over? She went with an unknown but the big key was Rebel Ink Press didn't require her to pay out of pocket. Don't let a questionable publisher trick you into forking over your money. Real publishers, like Rebel Ink Press, don't charge.

What can you do if you find yourself in a pickle of a place? Look at your contract. Contracts are were it's at. A big publisher, small publisher or an ebook publisher can screw you in the contract or help you out. This is where your friends come in. If you've made writer friends then you can ask them to help you understand the ins and outs of your contract.

Just don't sign anything before you ask an author. You may be excited and fascinated by the fact that you are now an author, but it's not worth losing your rights to a questionable company.

There are a few companies who prey on young teens. They wow them with the opportunity to publish and get the teen's parents to drop thousands. Unfortunately most of the parents have no clue that they and their children are being taken advantage of. They are ruining their opportunity to publish the book that they've worked years on. Their dreams are dashes and they have no clue until it's too late.

Be smart and don't spend any money on getting your book published. Find a professional writers group and ask some questions first.

So what's up with all this Weiner Mess?

So why should Anthony Weiner step down? The man has loads of half naked images floating around out there. First stop, Newsmax. This site has a photo of Weiner in a towel in the House Member's Gym. The guy looks sad with his paunchy belly while holding his balls. This doesn't look like a guy who's secure in himself.

So, is there anything bad about this photo that says he should step down? It's not that erotic of a photo. Sure, he's in a towel but you don't see any more body parts than you would in shorts without a shirt. But it's where the photo is taken. At the gym for House Member's. So he is using a facility that the tax payers paid for to further his sexual fantasies.

The next place, New York Daily News. The photos of Weiner really aren't that bad. Most of the men calling for his resignation have probably done much worse, but Weiner's behavior is a bit strange. I look at all of these photo's and I don't see a guy with it all together. I see a man who is lost.

But should he step down? He lied about the photo's. Lying about the photo's is totally not cool. Are these pictures disgusting as some of the pundits are calling it? Not really. They are disturbing in that he sent so many to women even though he is married. Sending half naked pictures of himself from the workplace makes it bad. Half naked pictures of himself that he sends to his wife or to women he's dating is strange, but not terrible.

My final say is that Weiner should step down. His motivation is questionable. He's sending text messages to a 17 year old and now taking a leave of absence from congress. His focus is on sex, not running the country. The man needs to get his priorities straight and let the rest of the lawmakers focus on their job and stop having to deal with Anthony Weiner's wiener.

Six Sentence Sunday - Runaway Princess

Her dance partner picked her up and wrapped her legs around his waist. The hard thickness of his rod brushed against her center. She jumped, surprised the man was as hard as marble.

He laughed out loud as heat coiled up her neck to her cheeks. His big hands pumped her up and down against his thick rod. The sliver of fear she’d felt earlier disappeared and delight filled her mind.

Love Thrillers?

So do you like to read thrillers? Check out my alter ego. Yes I write books other than erotic romance. They have some heat, but not as much. If you love thrillers then you'll love Murder Stalks.

When young women start dying, lead detective Tony Santos is drawn into a web of deceit and revenge that forces him out of the police department and directly into the sights of the killer. His wife walked out, and he's glad for that fact after a dead body winds up in his bed. Now he needs Marissa more than ever, but she's got her defenses up and his charm isn't working on her. Marissa has never been physically strong, but threats to her personal safety force her to prepare for a fight. She hires a personal trainer to help her get in shape. But can Marissa get her emotions in shape and stop her overwhelming desire for Tony? He's too close for comfort but her body begs to differ. She wants him but living in a small hotel room with Tony may prove to be more dangerous than the murders happening close to home.

Red Skhye in Morning is a thrilling read. Samuel Taylor is on break from work. He finds Delanie alone on a private island, but something is wrong. A killer is on the loose, preying on blonds. The killer targets both Delanie and Sam and they have to fight to live. William Sterling Rowland the Third wants to save the day. Will evil win, or can the world be saved by an FBI agent, a bored CEO and a movie star?

Weiner's Wiener

So when Weiner showing off his wiener was it really a bad thing? Weiner has a private life. He may be a bad judge of personal behavior, but was showing off his ding-a-ling to women bad?

Let's look at the facts. Weiner is married. His wiener belongs to his wife. He says he didn't cheat, but he did have phone sex/twitter sex with women on the side. Having sex on the side is cheating even if you don't stick your ding-a-ling in another person, you are using another person to get your jollies.

Weiner lied about his penis. He knew that the c*ck in the shorts was his. Here's a slide show, not sure how long it will be up, but I know my own body and Weiner should know his. He knew that was his d!ckie and what he'd been doing with it to get it that size when he took the picture.

Lying about WienerGate was wrong. How can his own wife trust him, much less the voting public. Had he not lied then maybe he could walk away unscathed, but come on. Why lie about your wiener. He could have just told the truth and been done with it. Of course his wife still has to deal with the fact that he's pond scum, but that's a different story.

Is looking at pictures of naked people wrong? Depends. Sometimes there are naked people on the screen. I write erotic romance, I see naked people on my book covers. My husband knows I see naked people all the time because sometimes I design my own covers, but I'm not sending those naked people pictures of my naked bits. It's a one way relationship. They take the naked picture and I used them to cover my book. The relationship works.

If you are sharing naked pictures with someone on line and not telling your spouse or significant other, then that's wrong. If your spouse knows about it, and you both agree it's ok, then share away, just don't go into politics.

One Hot Kiss

Hmm, did you see that sexy kiss between Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson?

What do you think of two men kissing? In July I have my first M/M piece coming out. Then in August I have another novel coming out that is M/M.

In Surprise Sleep over neither James nor Nick expect to have a wonderful night filled with passion and love. They get stuck in downtown Dallas during a snow storm and are forced to make do and boy do they make it.

In Working it Out Jake and Lance develop a loving relationship but can they make it work? The past, the future and the present all work together to drive a wedge into their relationship.

My only book that comes close to M/M is Matt and Tom Take a Lover. But it's M/M/F.

Commitment and Erotica

I don't think most people take commitment very seriously. The divorce rate is horrible in the US. It's almost like marriage is disposable. And no, I don't think letting gay men have the option of marrying is eroding the institution of marriage. People having affairs with other people is a much bigger problem than two men hooking up or two women living together.

Recently the LDS put out an article on why women shouldn't read romance books. The article was full of rubbish and didn't really discover the true reason why couples can't work out their relationships. The author Ms. Gilles blamed romance books for creating dangerously unbalanced women. Unfortunately, Ms. Gilles has a distorted view of romance and marriage.

Women and men need romance and intimacy to make their marriage work. Reading romance books can help a woman to find new ways to be romantic with her husband. Marriage is a give and give relationship. When you give of yourself your partner gives back. Finding new ways and to give to your partner is one sure way to keep a marriage exciting.

Men have a distorted view of marriage, not because of pornography and sex in movies, but because their parents didn't teach them how to act like loving people. Men must show their sons how to be loving partners in a marriage. I know my dad wasn't a loving partner with my mom. He was a jerk who bullied her and treated her like crap. How could my brother learn how to be a great husband if he was taught to be a bully.

Looking a pictures of naked women is far less dangerous to the institution of marriage than husbands acting like jerks to their wives. When we teach our children that it's okay for men to be jerks they learn to be jerks.

The problems of marriage failure can't be solved by telling men and women to stop looking at pornography or reading sweet romances or even erotic romance. When two people agree to be nice to each other, treating each other kindly and using kind words then the issues of marriage failure will become less.

Commitment isn't about following rules like don't read this or don't look at that, but commitment in marriage is being kind to your spouse, causing no harm by your actions. It's about giving mercy and extending grace to your partner. Loving words bring people together. Maybe a few more men need to pick up a romance book or two to learn kind words and maybe a few more women need to look at naked pictures of people so they can get in the mood for sex. I think those two things will help marriages more than any restriction ever will.
